K'Gari is handed over.

Monday 1st June 2015

On the mooring Nha Trang

So the handover begins.
Two days of information overload. What's under this hatch? What's behind this panel?  What does that valve do? How does the fuel transfer, or not, as the case may be? Where is the master panel for the electrical equipment? Where has that box of manuals gone, again?  How do I recharge my phone as I'm trying to record all this information for future reference? How does this inverter work?
What about the chart card for the chart plotter? How does the water maker work? Was the HF tested enroute from HCMC?  How much fuel will she burn per hour, if we use the engines? How do we read the manuals that are only supplied on a cd, when between us not one of us has a computer with a cdrom driver.?Has anyone got a clue how to operate this totally unintuitive  chart plotter? How do we get fuel before we depart?  Does anybody remember were we stowed the toilet paper?

A gazillion questions and answers, as the three of us, plus the technical handover man move around K'Gari , in stifling 40 degree heat.

There is no wind each morning , the harbour is like a mill pond, apart from the wash  created by the local fishing fleet, who set off each morning just as dawn is breaking.
Its actually the best time of day to be honest as its cool. By 0800 its stifling.

Where we are moored is just near the bunker barge, so each morning the fleet putts past us with their unmuffled engines, to take their fuel before setting off for the day.
We  also  discover, we on the outer edge of  the local morning swimming area. Each morning as the dawn breaks the harbour breakwater comes alive with locals clambering down it, into the water for a daily swim.
Quickly another phrase enters the limited Vietnamese that has been learnt thus far, "chào buổi sáng", "good morning", as K'Gari is circled by the swimmers, mainly senior citizens it appears, whilst we consume coffee on deck.
waterline view-thought it was time to join the morning swimming club.
